Privacy notice
What Shap-i-Round knows about you, why, and what you can do about it.
Last updated 5 October 2026. This is a first version, written in plain language. It will be reviewed before Shap-i-Round opens to the public.
If you just browse
You can look at every place and event without an account. We do not ask who you are, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
If you create an account
You sign in with your Google account. We then hold:
- From Google: your name, your email address and Google’s account number for you, which is how we recognise your account. We do not show any of these on the site and we never see your Google password.
- Your display name: the name you choose in the welcome step. This is public.
- Your confirmations: the date and time you confirmed you are 18 or older and accepted the terms, and which version of them.
- What you post: your reviews, the events you mark yourself as going to, and your forum messages.
What other people can see
- Your display name, beside anything you post.
- Your reviews, with their date and star rating.
- That you are going to an event, if you mark yourself as going.
- Your forum messages, while that event’s forum is open.
Your email address and your Google name are never shown.
Why we hold it
Only to run your account and show what you choose to post. We do not sell your information or pass it to advertisers. We will not send you marketing email unless you separately ask for it.
Cookies
When you sign in, the site stores cookies in your browser that keep you signed in. They are needed for sign-in to work and are removed when you sign out. There are no other cookies.
Where it is kept
Accounts and posts are stored with Supabase, our database provider, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. The website itself is served by Vercel. Sign-in is handled by Google. This means your information is stored and handled outside South Africa.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, display name, confirmations, reviews, “going” marks and forum messages from our database straight away. You can do this yourself on your account page.
Your rights
Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to how we use it. You can change your display name and delete your account yourself at any time. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
Under 18s
Accounts are for people aged 18 or older. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, please tell us and we will remove it.
Contact
Our contact details will be added here before Shap-i-Round opens to the public. Until then, you can delete your account and everything attached to it yourself, at any time, from your account page.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will ask you to read and accept the new version the next time you use your account.
